New head of the department

Professor Dr. Clemens Bechinger has been a professor at the University of Konstanz's Department of Physics since 2017. He received his doctorate from the University of Konstanz in 1993 and habilitated in experimental physics there in 1999. His research focuses on soft condensed matter, in particular colloidal systems and their phase transitions, as well as on active particles and dynamic processes far from thermodynamic equilibrium. His scientific awards also include two ERC Advanced Grants and the prestigious Walter Schottky Prize of the German Research Foundation.

In his role as spokesperson for the department, Professor Bechinger aims to sustainably promote both research and teaching through clearer structures and more efficient processes in order to further strengthen scientific exchange and cooperation within the department.

The department would also like to take this opportunity to thank the previous spokesperson, Professor Dr. Alfred Leitenstorfer, for his valuable work. One of his aims was to increase the visibility of the department by restructuring existing events, such as the Day of Physics, and developing their content.
