In this talk an example of a career in the capital equipment industry will be presented, based on a Physics Diploma and a following dissertation project in the Department of Physics at University of Konstanz. The combination of theoretical training and practical hands-on experience as practiced in R&D at the Photovoltacis Division at Universtiy of Konstanz has proven to be a powerful tool developing skills that are high in demand for a management role at companies being world market leaders in their field. It will be shown how individual components of physics training at University of Konstanz have led to the development of state of the art manufaturing technologies that are present in everyday life today.
